What Made Arseniy Yatsenyuk Resign?

Arseniy Yatsenyuk resignedOne of the biggest tragedies in the form of news that struck many major leaders across the world is the leaks known as the ‘Panama Papers’. It has been a week since these leaks occupied the attention of every person in the world. These leaks have already proved to be more devastating towards many leaders as compared to the Wiki leaks in 2010 and Edward Snowden’s confession in 2013.

Many big players have taken a tumble from these leaks. The most prominent of figure was of the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk. Not only that the Ukrainian government has opened cases against him, in which he is claimed to be involved in offshore tax haven.

The reason behind Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s resignation

There is not much to say about how much did he invested in the offshore companies but there was clear cut mentioned that he owned a number of offshore companies. However, the authenticity of the leaked papers suggested that he should step down from his seat. His resignation came at a time when the nation of Ukraine was facing political crisis. This paved out a way for the new government to come and try to solve the political crisis that the nation is going through.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk resigns - Panama leaks

Fresh from getting a no-confidence vote in February, Yatsenyuk was blamed to slow down the pace of reforms and worsen the Ukraine’s economy.

Who will replace Arseniy Yatsenyuk

The new Prime Minister of Ukraine -Volodymyr Groysman

On 7th April, all of the Ukrainian parliament and lawmakers allowed Volodymyr Groysman to replace the seat of Arseniy Yatsenyuk as the Prime Minister of Ukraine with immediate effect. He was backed by a total of 257 members of the Ukrainian Parliament to become the Prime Minister. These were 31 votes more than the required to take the seat of Arseniy Yatsenyuk. He then went on to assure the members of parliament by saying that he will restore the leadership of the nation.

Current political situation

There is a possibility of conducting an early election, this would happen if the politicians do not unite behind selecting a single name for the Prime Minister and fail to form a coalition. The President of Ukraine, who himself is involved in Panama leaks, wants to carry out elections to stop the nation from any more political instability.

His last actions as the Prime Minister
After the controversial involvement of Yatsenyuk in offshore companies, he focused all of his attention on passing a new electoral law, wanted to achieve judicial and constitutional reform. He also wanted to ensure that the coalition causes a complete control over the new government.

Just like the resignations of  Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the prime minister of Iceland,  the locals of the othet countries too, are waitinf for their PMs to resign who too are among the list of leaders who have allegations of having offshore companies in Panama.
