The Christening ceremony consisted of on 23 guests and only the close friends and family was invited in a small, intimate celebration of the eve. Wearing a replica christening gown, fashioned after the one made for Queen Victoria and first used in 1841, little Prince looked really cute and calm while still been in the arms of his dad, Prince William.

The ceremony took place at the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace, which is really close to the hearts of the Royal Family due to the history attached to it. It was the same chapel where Kate was blessed into the Church of England in 2011, prior to her marriage to Prince William. Moreover, Prince William paid his final respects to Princess Diana here only in 1997.

The Guests

As stated above, the ceremony was dealt as a private affair like the birth celebrations of Prince George and only the prominent faces of the Royal Family were seen at the chapel. Queen Elizabeth II, her husband Prince Philip, Prince Charles, his wife Camilla and Prince Harry were among the royals in attendance. George’s maternal grandparents and uncle and aunty also showed their appearance.

The Rituals

As per the royal tradition, six godparents are usually chosen for the ceremony but Prince William and Kate named seven of these:

  • · Oliver Baker, a friend from St. Andrews University
  • · Emilia Jardine-Paterson, a friend of Kate’s who is said to have introduced the couple  when they were 17
  • · Earl Grosvenor, son of the Duke of Westminster
  • · Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, a past private secretary for the couple
  • · Julia Samuel, a close friend of the late Princess Diana
  • · William van Cutsem, a friend of Prince William
  • · Zara Philips, cousin to Prince William
