Microsoft is an American public multinational corporation in Redmond, Washington, USA which was developed on 4th August 1975. It develops, manufactures, licenses and supports a wide range of products and services which deal with computing.

Visio Corporation
Acquired for: $1.375 Billion
Visio Corporation is a software company which was founded in 1990. It is a Seattle based company which was acquired by Microsoft on 7th January 2000. The company began with a diagramming application which was later merged with Microsoft and became Microsoft Visio after its acquisition.
Navision
Acquired for: $1.33 Billion
Navision is a company which developed the technology for Microsoft Dynamics NAV enterprise resource planning software. It was later acquired by Microsoft on 12th July 2002 and was renamed as Microsoft Dynamics.
aQuantive
Acquired for: $7.333 Billion
aQuantive is an advertising company which ranked 14th among all the advertising agencies in the world in terms of revenue before its acquisition. It was divided into three categories i.e. Avenue A/Razorfish, Atlas Solutions and DRIVE Performance Solutions. All these were acquired by Microsoft on 13th August 2007.
Fast Search & Transfer
Acquired for: $1.91 Billion
Fast Search & Transfer is a Norwegian Enterprise Search Company. In order to boost the company’s search technology, Microsoft acquired Fast Search & Track on 25th April 2008.
Skype
Acquired for: $8.5 Billion
Skype is one of the most widely used VoIP service for live communication. It was acquired by Microsoft on 10th May 2011 with a value 32 times larger than Skype’s operating profits. Skype is a division within Microsoft and its president has to report to Steve Ballmer.
Yammer
Acquired for: $1.2 Billion
Yammer is free service for private communication within an organization which was launched in 2008. It is a great example of enterprise social software. It was acquired by Microsoft in 2012.
Nokia
Acquired for: $7 Billion
Nokia devices and smartphones have been recently acquired by Microsoft. This was the most beneficial offer for both Nokia and Microsoft. Microsoft played another smart move in purchasing Nokia.
